well, sometimes I comment, just because I can.Īnd yes, I do realize the irony of me commenting about my disgust with the "just because we can" attitude in this situation just because I could. Still, when I see something that upsets me. I don't think an idiot should be given the power to set boundaries on anyone else. I will, amazingly, still be an utter idiot in most subjects. In the grand scheme of things, I am an idiot in most every subject, and even after a lifetime of learning.
I have no wish to move the boundary back. I don't want reddit to suddenly shut down every subreddit I think is disgusting - I am one woman with a very small range of worldly experience, and even if I were the wisest human to ever live, I would not have the right to force anyone else's hand to comply with my wishes. While I find the situation disgusting, I would not want my personal opinion to affect the rights of others. My comment was purely a personal statement that I find this situation and the attitude that lead to it getting so out of hand disgusting, and I do wish that people online (and yes, offline) could have a bit more compassion at times, and a bit more respect for consent. Still - who, if anyone, should have the right to stop people from having that attitude? On the other, the lack of self-control said attitude tends to breed can be pretty objectionable at times. On the one hand, having the freedom to do something just because we can is a good thing. It seems to me that the "just because we can" attitude is a grey area. I am not sure why, I generally love sarcasm, even when it's being used against me. Even your original comment, though I took exception to your sarcasm. Secondly, I agree wholeheartedly with everything you've said.
